Nineteen (19) Members of KyU Health club participated in 2016 First Lady’s Half marathon (Beyond Zero Campaign) held in Nairobi on March 6, 2016.
The event that was graced by His Excellency Deputy President, Hon. William Ruto and attended by tens of thousands of Kenyans also attracted participation of, Statehouse spokesperson, Manoah Esipisu and Cabinet Secretary for Health Cleopa Mailu among other dignitaries.
The Principal KyU and the Deputy Principal ARSA wish to congratulate Ms. Irene Muchira, a tutorial fellow at the department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering for winning the Africa Development Bank Scholarship to pursue “Doctor of Philosophy in Electronics & Instrumentation”.
The three year fellowship tenable at Kenyatta University, Kenya is a significant achievement towards realization of optimal human resource capacity development for KyU.
The Principal KyU and Deputy Principal, ARSA congratulate Mr. Waweru Nderu of School of Health Sciences for winning the International Society for Infectious Disease (ISID) grant to undertake research titled” Analysis of Plasmodium falciparum Histidine Rich protein-2(pphr2) gene diversity in Kenya and its impact on malaria Rapid diagnostic tests(RTDs)”.
This research responds to the fact that conventional diagnostic methods rely on microscopy requiring electricity that is not always available in rural areas. The research if successful would generate vital data that would potentially guide interpretation of negative malaria RDT results which are often overestimated. The research will be undertaken in collaboration with researchers at Malaria unit of the Center for Biotechnology Research and Development at Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Nairobi.
I wish to thank on behalf of KyU management all staff, students, and friends of KyU that supported us materially and otherwise during preparations for and through participation in the celebrations for ISO 9001:2008 certification held at our main campus on Friday July 24, 2015 I wish to single out Kabare Girls High School – Kerugoya and Bonanza Academy – Embu.
Wishing you all well.
Prof. Mary Ndung’u
