The Department of State invites applications for its call on safeguarding against vulnerabilities for women and for children in the Near Eastern Affairs region. US and foreign-based non-profit organisations, NGOs, public international organisations, institutions of higher education, as well as for-profit organisations and businesses, may apply. Preference is given to non-profit entities. Funding is worth up to US$550,000 over 12 to 24 months for a project starting between January and June 2016. Ref: DRLA-DRLAQM-16-048.

The Code for Africa invites applications for its impactAFRICA programme. Teams of journalists or news innovators from all across the world may apply. All projects should include members from their target country of Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania or Zambia. Academic research projects must demonstrate a media partnership to publish the research in journalistic format that adheres to the innovative storytelling guidelines and is innovative and designed to reach a large audience in one of the eligible countries. The total budget is US$500,000. The 10 finalists will receive production grants to enable them to produce their stories along with technology supports, journalistic mentoring and support on issues ranging from audience strategies to syndication of the content. The size of the grants will be determined by budgets workshopped by the applicant and impactAFRICA. Three additional cash prizes are awarded to the best investigative report, the best data-driven story, and the best service journalism project.

The African Academy of Sciences under the KEMRI/Wellcome Trust research programme invites applications for its initiativeto develop African research leaders (IDeAL) fellowships. African mid-career postdoctoral researchers who have completed their PhD within the last eight years and have a strong publications record in any health-related area such as basic sciences, clinical sciences, nutrition, social sciences, epidemiology, health systems and policy, ethics, demography and statistics may apply. Upto five fellowships worth US$50,000 per year over four years, are available.

Newton international fellowship scheme outside the UK British Academy, GB
- These enable early-stage postdoctoral researchers from overseas in the fields of natural sciences, physical sciences, medical sciences, social sciences and the humanities to work at UK research institutions with the aim of fostering long-term international collaborations. New Horizon 2020 Calls for Proposals
The 2016-2017 calls for proposals are open to international cooperation and contain several topics of particular interest to researchers in Africa:

a topic on vaccine development for malaria and/or neglected infectious diseases.
2. In Agriculture & Food:
3 complementary topics will support the implementation of the EU-AFRICA Partnership of Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture:

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK, GB These enable early career academic staff from developing countries to spend between three and 10 months at any approved UK university or higher education institution.
