Rowan Rodgers, a fourth year Software Engineering student at Kirinyaga University led a team of three students including himself, Ridan Hawi a fourth year B.Sc. Electrical and Electronics Engineering student from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Robert Odhiambo a fourth year B.Sc. Electrical and Electronics Engineering student from University of Nairobi to achieve a historic milestone defeating more than 29,000 global submissions to win the 2025 Call for Code Global Challenge. Their team, DuniAfrika, won the Global Grand Prize, becoming the first team from the Africa and Middle East region to claim the competition’s top award since its launch in 2018.

Kirinyaga University today hosted officials from the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) for an engagement session aimed at sensitizing students on professional registration and standards in the engineering technology field. The session provided students with valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of KETRB in regulating engineering technology professionals in Kenya. Participants were guided on the requirements and procedures for professional registration as engineering technologists and technicians, as well as the importance of adhering to professional and ethical standards in practice.

Kirinyaga University on 18th November 2025 hosted a powerful and insightful forum in partnership with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Kenya Leadership Integrity Forum (KLIF) under the theme “Uniting the Youth against Corruption: Shaping tomorrow’s Integrity.”
The event brought together students, staff, and key stakeholders for a thought-provoking conversation on the role of young people in building an accountable, transparent, and ethical Kenya.

From the outset, the atmosphere was charged with curiosity and energy. Students came ready not just to listen, but to meaningfully engage. The forum opened the floor for candid conversations, allowing participants to raise the difficult questions often avoided in public discourse: Why does corruption persist? What role do young people play in challenging the status quo? How can institutions promote integrity at all levels?

Representatives from EACC and KLIF offered open, honest responses — addressing both structural challenges and personal responsibility. They shared practical insights on how youth can use their voices, platforms, and choices to push for change within their communities and future workplaces.
Speakers emphasized that integrity is not just a value but a daily practice, and that the youth, who make up the largest population demographic in Kenya, hold the greatest power to influence the country's future trajectory.

Students did not shy away from pressing issues. They raised concerns about corruption in public institutions, the role of leadership, gaps in governance, and the importance of whistleblowing and ethical decision-making. These tough questions created a constructive dialogue that moved beyond theory into real-world implications.

The forum was graced by distinguished guests, including Dr. Monica Muiru, the Vice Chairperson of the EACC, who served as the Chief Guest. In her address, she underscored the critical role of youth in dismantling entrenched systems of corruption and encouraged students to be bold, principled, and unwavering in their pursuit of integrity.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mary Ndung’u, delivered the keynote address, reaffirming the University’s commitment to nurturing ethical leaders capable of driving national transformation. She emphasized the importance of education not only as a pathway to knowledge, but as a foundation for integrity, responsibility, and civic duty.

As Kirinyaga University continues to shape the next generation of leaders, forums like this underscore the institution’s commitment to nurturing responsible, ethical citizens who will advance positive change.
