Kirinyaga University teams delivered commendable performances at the KUSF Central League Games held at the University of Embu on March 14 -15, 2026. The Women’s Soccer team recorded one win and two draws, while the Women’s Basketball team secured one-win despite facing training challenges due to limited court access. The Women’s Handball team, though winless, gained valuable experience for future improvement.
The highlight of the tournament was the Men’s Volleyball team, which qualified for the National Championships, marking a major achievement for the University. The Sports Department appreciates the continued support from University Management in enabling successful participation. The University teams posted strong performances at the KUSF Central League Games. The Women’s Soccer and Basketball teams each secured a win, while the Women’s Handball team gained valuable experience. The Men’s Volleyball team stood out by qualifying for the National Championships. The University appreciates Management’s support in enabling successful participation.

Prof. Mary Ndung’u, the Vice Chancellor of Kirinyaga University, was part of the Kenyan universities delegation that visited Xi’an University of Electronic Science and Technology, China, on 12th January 2026.
Rowan Rodgers, a fourth year Software Engineering student at Kirinyaga University led a team of three students including himself, Ridan Hawi a fourth year B.Sc. Electrical and Electronics Engineering student from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and Robert Odhiambo a fourth year B.Sc. Electrical and Electronics Engineering student from University of Nairobi to achieve a historic milestone defeating more than 29,000 global submissions to win the 2025 Call for Code Global Challenge. Their team, DuniAfrika, won the Global Grand Prize, becoming the first team from the Africa and Middle East region to claim the competition’s top award since its launch in 2018.
Kirinyaga University successfully hosted its 6th Annual Mathematics, Robotics Contest and Career Day on Saturday, March 7, 2026, bringing together bright young minds from various high schools. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their academic abilities, creativity and innovation in the fields of mathematics and robotics. During the event, visiting high school students enthusiastically participated in mathematics contests and robotics competitions, demonstrating impressive problem-solving skills, analytical thinking, and technological creativity. The competitions challenged participants to apply classroom knowledge to practical situations, encouraging teamwork and innovative solutions.
Outstanding participants were recognized and rewarded with trophies and certificates in appreciation of their remarkable achievements. The awards ceremony celebrated the dedication and talent of the students while motivating them to continue pursuing excellence in science and technology.
Beyond the competitions, the event also featured career guidance sessions where students received valuable insights on academic choices and professional opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Experts and university representatives shared guidance on how learners can prepare for successful careers in these rapidly evolving disciplines.
As part of the experience, the visiting students were given an opportunity to tour Kirinyaga University’s workshops and laboratories. This allowed them to gain first-hand exposure to the university’s practical learning environment, modern facilities, and hands-on training approach that supports innovation and research.
The Annual Mathematics, Robotics Contest and Career Day continues to play a significant role in inspiring young learners to pursue STEM careers while strengthening Kirinyaga University’s engagement with schools and the wider community. Through such initiatives, the University remains committed to nurturing talent, promoting innovation, and preparing the next generation of scientists, engineers, and technology leaders.

Kirinyaga University today hosted officials from the Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB) for an engagement session aimed at sensitizing students on professional registration and standards in the engineering technology field. The session provided students with valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of KETRB in regulating engineering technology professionals in Kenya. Participants were guided on the requirements and procedures for professional registration as engineering technologists and technicians, as well as the importance of adhering to professional and ethical standards in practice.
