DR. KINYUA OF SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES WINS THE OPTICA FOUNDATION CHALLENGE AWARD 2024

The office of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Research and Students Affairs is happy to announce that Dr. Dickson Mwenda Kinyua of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences, Kirinyaga University has been named the 2024 winner of the prestigious Optica Foundation Challenge Award.  Dr. Kinyua’s winning project, titled "Development of robotic microscopy for rapid and cost-effective malaria diagnosis," aims to revolutionize malaria diagnostics, particularly in resource-limited settings. This award recognizes early-career professional who leverage optics and photonics to tackle global challenges globally. The award comes with a USD 100,000 prize to support his groundbreaking research. 

On behalf of the entire KyU fraternity, the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor, ARSA and that of Vice Chancellor are proud of Dr. Kinyua’s achievement and congratulate him for emerging the 2024 winner of Optica Foundation Challenge.  Well done Dr. Kinyua and may you work even harder to achieve higher research goals.
