A. PAYMENT OF FEES
1. What is the procedure of paying fees?
The fees should be paid through any of the listed bank account:

2. When is fees due?
Full fees is due on the first day of the Semester
3. Can I pay my fees in instalments?
- Students who are unable to pay the full fee amount at the time of reporting can opt for the instalment option
- Fee Payment option. This allows fees to be paid in instalments within a semester.
- The payment plan is usually as follows:
- First Instalment: Pay at least 60% of the total semester household fees before the registration deadline.
- Final Instalment: Second installment of 40% tuition fees must be paid in full at the eight week of the semester. A student, who fails to clear full fees by two (2) weeks to the start of end of semester/term examinations, shall be advised to take academic leave and thereafter sit for the examinations when next offered upon clearance of fees
4. How can I access my fee payment statement?
You can access the fee payment statement from your student portal
5. Can I do my exam if I have not cleared the Semester fees?
No, only students who have cleared the Semester fees are allowed to sit for exams
B. HIGHER EDUCATION FUND
1. How can I apply for a government scholarship, loan and bursary?
All Government sponsored students MUST make an application for consideration through the official scholarship and loan application portal through www.hef.co.ke
2. When is the deadline for application for funding?
The HEF portal is open for applications starting June 18, 2024. Please refer to the HEF portal for specific deadlines. Add these details if relevant.
3. How much will I be charged for the application for funding?
The Higher Education Fund does not charge any application fee for funding.
4. I have not yet acquired a national ID card, will I still be allowed to apply for funding?
You can apply for a scholarship and HELB using your KCSE index number.
5. How much funding will I receive after application?
Funding is determined by your need as evidenced by the details in your application and other available records with the GoK. The need shall be scientifically determined by a Means Testing Instrument (MTI). Funding to students shall combine scholarships, loans and household contributions on a graduated scale.
C. STUDENT RESOURCES
1. Must I report on the reporting day?
No, the registration process continues for two weeks after the indicated reporting date in your admission letter.
2. How can I access my student email?
Upon reporting the University will open for you an email address (student email) where all university communication shall be channeled.
3. How can I access the student portal?
The student portal is accessible through the following link: https://student.kyu.ac.ke/.
This is activated upon successful registration and details sent to your email.
D. DEFER AND ACADEMIC LEAVE
1. What is the difference between academic leave and deferment of studies?
Academic leave is for students who have completed at least one semester and need to take a break for acceptable reasons while Deferment of studies applies to new students who choose to delay the start of their studies to a later date, such as postponing their start from September 2024 to September 2025.
2. Is it possible for a student to defer their studies?
- Students can defer their studies due to acceptable reasons such as medical, financial constraints among other valid reasons.
- A student can only defer for a maximum of two years after which the offer of admission shall expire and the student will be deemed to have forfeited the offer of admission.
3. How do I apply for deferment of studies?
Deferment is done by filling a deferment form available on this link; https://kyu.ac.ke/resources/student-downloads

E. CHANGE OF PROGRAMME OF STUDY
1. Can a student change the programme admitted to pursue at Kirinyaga University?
Yes, students may seek to transfer from their enrolled programmes as provisions allow.
Government-sponsored students can only request Inter/Intra School transfers at the beginning of an Academic Year (within the first two weeks from reporting date). An application for transfer by a government-sponsored student may be considered if:
- The applicant meets the cluster points for the desired program and KyU subject requirements for Government-Sponsored students.
- The desired programme has the capacity to accommodate the applicant.
An application for transfer by a self-sponsored student may be considered if the student meets the Programme admission requirements.
F. ON-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATION
1. Are hostel charges included in tuition fee?
No, Accommodation charges are usually not included in the fees structure. The cost for on- campus accommodation is ksh 5,000 per semester.
2. Who can apply for on-campus accommodation?
- All first year students are eligible to apply for on-campus accommodation.
- All Vulnerable students e.g Persons With Disability
- The University allocates hostels on a first-book, first-served basis.
Booking of accommodation is done online. A link is provided in the new student portal where a student download their admission documents.
3. What facilities are provided in the University hostels?
Students in University accommodation are provided with a bed and furniture, you are required to bring a mattress, beddings and other basic necessities. Each resident student is responsible for the items issued to them.
4. Am I allowed to cook in the hostel?
Cooking and the use of unauthorized electrical appliances that can endanger residents, their property, or University property are prohibited in the halls of residence.
G. EXTERNAL ACCOMODATION
1. What do I do if I don’t get on-campus accommodation?
- It is important to note that on-campus accommodation is limited. However, there is ample off-campus accommodation for all students admitted to KyU. Those who miss out on On- Campus accommodation may secure. secureoff-campus accommodation.
- The University provides information including costs, Images and contacts about external hostel providers located near the University premises on the university website.
- External hostel providers will be in the University during the registration days.
Note:
- Payments should be made after securing a room and physically confirming the availability of rooms
- The University does not act as an agent for any hostel providers
- Be cautious of potential scams/conmen
H. HEALTH SERVICES
1. Where do I go for medical examination which include x-ray, radiologist report and filling of the form?
You are required to visit an authorized medical facilities for the medical examination, tests, x-ray, radiologist report and filling of the provided form.
2. What should I do if I get sick?
Medical services are offered at the University Health facility at no cost however in case of referral the University will provide necessary arrangements at the students cost.
